Waiting To Be Rescued by Michael Bristow At Interfaith Community Sanctuary in April and May

Compositions of harmonious color and form are to be found everywhere around us. In the work of Michael Bristow, scraps of throwaway printed ephemera and discarded objects are redeemed and ennobled, given new meaning as elements of form and color. Patterns of synchronicity, significance, and even mysticism are sometimes revealed, perhaps differently to the individual viewer. Each piece, however, is initially inspired by an “accidental” juxtaposition - not created but rather noticed by the artist.

In our age of digitally-created art, Michael Bristow prefers to work with paint, glue, wood, cardboard, and bits of paper and metal scavenged from the streets, beaches, and second-hand stores. He believes that exciting colors and shapes are always surrounding us, waiting to be rescued and made into art that costs little to the environment or to his own wallet."  To reach Michael Bristow, email: mbristow@seanet.com

Every two months ICS features a guest artist in the Fellowship Hall (downstairs). Ongoing in the Sanctuary (upstairs) congregant’s communal art, created during spiritual retreats, is featured. Each unique piece has been designed by artist Linda Stern, who guides congregants in the art experience.

Tree of Life, Tree of Light

Linda Stern, who leads the creative and sacred experience, has been an producing artist for over 50 years and some of her creations will also be in the exhibit. Whenever she creates she enters a state of prayer and meditation to infuse the art with the Light and Love of the Divine. Her paintings are largely esoteric and spiritual in nature with a strong influence of Divine Feminine aspects.

Linda will be at the Sanctuary to discuss Spirituality, Creativity and Art from 6-9 on the Art Walk evenings.

Inspire Me Mandalas On Display at Interfaith Community Sanctuary for March Artwalk

Through the month of March, Inspire Me Mandalas will be on display at the Interfaith Community Santuary. These unique, circular designs are handmade by Shabeena Helsley using basic tools, which preserves the designs' organic essence. They are meant to be visually balanced and appealing, and include meanings and intentions held within each mandala.

The significance is derived through the elements, colors, numbers and symbols used in each piece of art. They are designed to draw the mind and allow it to clear the thoughts and invite a more philosophical or spiritual essence to envelope the observer, which in turn leads to higher consciousness and transformation.

Shabeena will be present for a reception and artist talk on Saturday, March 8th between 6-8pm.

Images of Light: Interfaith Icons for the 21st Century at the Interfaith Community Sanctuary

Icons are windows into heaven.
They are essentially communication devices.
This is a two-way communication.

Iconmaking is a construction project, like building a window, which takes place as much in the imaginal world as the material.

Keeping this space open & alive requires attention.
An icon is a hotline to the Beloved.
An icon is a mirror that is alive.

Exhibition: December 1--January 31
Reception & Artist Talk: Saturday January 11, 6:00pm

Workshop: “Making Images of Light" January 25th, 2014, 1 - 4pm, $25
Come learn about & practice the physical & spiritual mechanics of iconmaking.
