Compositions of harmonious color and form are to be found everywhere around us. In the work of Michael Bristow, scraps of throwaway printed ephemera and discarded objects are redeemed and ennobled, given new meaning as elements of form and color. Patterns of synchronicity, significance, and even mysticism are sometimes revealed, perhaps differently to the individual viewer. Each piece, however, is initially inspired by an “accidental” juxtaposition - not created but rather noticed by the artist.
In our age of digitally-created art, Michael Bristow prefers to work with paint, glue, wood, cardboard, and bits of paper and metal scavenged from the streets, beaches, and second-hand stores. He believes that exciting colors and shapes are always surrounding us, waiting to be rescued and made into art that costs little to the environment or to his own wallet." To reach Michael Bristow, email: mbristow@seanet.com
Every two months ICS features a guest artist in the Fellowship Hall (downstairs). Ongoing in the Sanctuary (upstairs) congregant’s communal art, created during spiritual retreats, is featured. Each unique piece has been designed by artist Linda Stern, who guides congregants in the art experience.

Internal Navigation at Habitude For March Artwalk
For the March Artwalk, Habitude presents Internal Navigation, a show of mixed media work by Salyna Gracie.
Habitude Salons and Spa
2801 NW Market St
Salyna's mixed-media collage works explore her interest in the layering of consciousness, the surreal nature of reality and the universal experience inherent in the deeply personal terrain of inner truth.
"My collages evoke dreamscapes that are at once mystical and confessional, exploring questions of identity, memory, legacy and inheritance. The symbols of a personal mythology, a legend, that navigates internal landscapes and unlocks sensual treasures of light and shadow.

Illustrated Collage By Dan Voelker Featured at Umpqua Bank for November Artwalk
Dan Voelker explores relationships in tone, line, shape
and depth using collage. The layering effect of collage allows his drawings to become paintings. The collages begin with several “automatic”
charcoal drawings on paper. All of the material found in each collage comes
from these drawings, which are sliced up and reassembled in a new way. The cutting up process is an extension of drawing, as Voelker is able to create new and unique forms. When assembling the pieces, he does not begin with a
plan or sketch. His process is improvisational, immediate and organic; slowly
building each piece into a balanced composition.
Though his work is abstract, it often references figurative elements. A portrait, landscape, or still-life will often emerge, sometimes in the same composition. Voelker is deeply fascinated by sculpture and often sees his work referencing 3 dimensional forms. He attempts to engage the viewer by shifting perspectives and/or subjects, creating movement with dramatic events while leaving the piece open to interpretation.

Dave Ryan and Carlos Valdez Debut at Full Tilt
Dave Ryan was born and bred in the wet dank forests of Washington State. He began stenciling in the spring of 2006 and started to refer to himself as the Manticore.
He had lost most of his fine motor funtions and used stenciling as both a means to regain the use of his hands and as his sole income.
The Manticore has since made a full recovery, and his unique blend of silly pop art can be found in coffee shops, wateringholes, and at Seattle's Freemont Sunday Market.
Carlos Valdez presents this series of collages, which highlights the figures from his childhood in magazines and on Saturday morning TV.
Literally, larger than life, throughout a wrestler’s career there are ups and downs. They were role models…sometimes a villain then good, bad, or indifferent. Right and wrong, ambiguity is fluid as we age but shocking and polarizing in our youth. Carlos cuts audio in real time on each collage, all playable on your turntable.

Monotypes and Collages of Nancy Reithaar will be Shown at Domanico Cellars Winery & Tasting Room for the August ArtWalk
"I
am a printmaker with a painter’s sensibility. Monotype is a technique
with allows for a painterly, colorful and spontaneous approach to
creating images. Animals fascinate me and provide me with a rich source
of forms, textures and expressions to work with.
The combination of
monotype and collage allows me to compose and adapt in response to the
unique subject. When I let go of total control of the process, it is
clear which elements should be cut away and which should be enhanced
with texture, color, and light.
The process becomes exciting as I
discover the relationships between a shorebird on the beach, for
instance, and the image in my mind, the paintbrushes, the press, the
paper, and the combination of ink colors that faithfully express the
bird’s individual characteristics and universal beauty."

View Collage Art by Kathy Parker at the Ballard Station Public House, Hosted by Andrew Parker of RE/MAX Metro Realty for the March ArtWalk
Kathy Parker
"I was raised in the artistic surroundings of San Francisco and
Sausalito, CA and have been a Seattle artist since 1988. I am a
Signature Member of the National Collage Society and have won national
as well as local awards. My work is in various collections, including
Group Health in Tacoma. WA.
In an increasingly high tech and stainless steel world, I hope to
add a moment of color, texture, beauty or surprise with my art. I
start a collage or fiber piece for the sheer pleasure of seeing how an
idea is going to turn out. Often the forms and colors of the materials I
use create an unexpected shape, rhythm or atmosphere of their own and
result in a picture quite unlike my original concept.
In creating collages I use Asian papers which I usually color
with acrylic . I also use "found" papers from published sources and
interesting fabrics. I apply the materials on canvas or archival paper
background using acrylic medium as the glue. "Collage" is derived from
the French verb "coller" meaning to adhere, paste or glue. When the
picture is finished, I use UV protective varnish."
