Interfaith Sacred Community Art is an exhibit in permanent residence at Interfaith Community Sanctuary. The 8 large-scale spiritual paintings were designed and led by Linda Stern at spiritual retreats held every year. Each of the paintings, call to diverse spiritual and faith traditions with symbols and meanings that are interwoven throughout.

Birthed from the Womb of Creation

Symbols of Divine Love

Tree of Life, Tree of Light

Linda Stern, who leads the creative and sacred experience, has been an producing artist for over 50 years and some of her creations will also be in the exhibit. Whenever she creates she enters a state of prayer and meditation to infuse the art with the Light and Love of the Divine. Her paintings are largely esoteric and spiritual in nature with a strong influence of Divine Feminine aspects.

Linda will be at the Sanctuary to discuss Spirituality, Creativity and Art from 6-9 on the Art Walk evenings.

Portrait and Figure Artist Aron Hart Showing at Art & Soul During June Artwalk

Art & Soul is pleased to show artwork by Aron Hart for the month of June. Aron is a gifted and award-winning Puget Sound portrait and figure artist, specializing in both traditional and non-traditional portraits.

Aron developed his skills by studying locally and abroad, most recently graduating from Gage Academy's Drawing and Painting Atelier, where he is now an instructor. Much of the allure of Aron's work comes from his strong grasp of light and shadow and, whether painted in oil or drawn, his pieces always demonstrate his passion for contrast - on the canvas, in the artist, and in the subject.

The Inevitable Entropy of Nature as Seen by Redd Walitzki at Balmar during April Artwalk

In her paintings, Redd Walitzki focuses on the balance between the inevitable entropy of nature, and the
unattainable beauty inverted by us through high fashion and technology. Redd brings to life a compelling
world of haunting, fleeting beauty. Her creatures are an equal mixture of the breathtaking, the ethereal,
the uncanny and unsettling. A daydream of lovely aberrations which evoke themes of neoteny, the desire
for perfection and the fine line between the abject and beautiful.

Redd Walitzki is a working artist from Germany, now living in Pioneer Square. She graduated from
Cornish College of the Arts with her BFA in 2007 with a concentration in Painting, Video, Animation and
Printmaking. She can usually be found in her studio painting to BBC Documentaries, playing with her pet
opossum, or chasing down the next strange adventure.

For the month of October, Miro Tea is featuring local artist Meghan Noel. Ms. Noel is a painter, illustrator, & textile and mixed media artist working in the Northwest.

In recent years she has chosen to focus more on her  intricate painting and illustrations. Her paintings and illustrations range from dreamy and surreal to delicate and whimsical. She seeks not to create masterpieces to grace the walls of museums, but rather to create smaller more intimate works to fit into the lives of readers and writers, poets and dreamers, mother, fathers, and everyday folk.

Her website is : www.megannoel.com.

Paintings by Jay Wescott Featured for a Second Month at BalMar

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Jay Wescott’s fascination with typography and cartooning started at a young age. Ever since, he has been working to incorporate the two through drawings, illustrations, murals, and design.

He has dedicated the past ten years of his life to street art, and continues to push the envelope and set the standard for perfection.  His work can be seen in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Germany, France, and Holland.

This particular group of work was inspired by the floral life I see in Seattle.  My goal was to capture the beauty we get to see for only a short period of time each year.

Blowing Sands Presents the Vivid Acrylics of Tony Scauzillo-Golden

Tony Scauzillo-Golden is a painter of vivid acrylics.  His bold colors, visionary skyscapes, and thought provoking portraits of our mind’s selves are intense and alive.   “He has traveled all over North America and Europe seeking artistic experiences and adventure. International travel, art, music, filming, photography, architecture and visual designs are his passions.  Called a visionary artist by friends and family, his art works have been exhibited numerous times around Seattle since 1996."

"Tony attended the University of Washington from 1996 to 2001 earning an honors level B.A. majoring in art history and architecture. From 2003-2005 TSG worked in recruitment support at Cornish College of the Arts and audited design courses in web design, design for fabrication, and 3D Maya animation.
In 2010-2011, Tony returned to the UW and completed a graduate level professional certificate in User Centered Design (UCD) in the Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) department. While researching UCD, Tony presented his original Spective Ideation concept at the 2011 HCDE Open House along with his Spective Colour UI/UX design. In the Spring of 2011, Tony lead a group of human-computer interaction (HCI) seniors on an independent UCD project taking his Spective Colour UI/UX and getting user feedback on current industry standard color systems.
On the creative side, TSG stays active in visual arts, multi-media, indie film, poetry, writing, public improv art and progressive politics. On the more adventurous side, TSG is an avid mountain bike enthusiast and outdoorsmen. Tony grew up in Colorado and learned to love Nature playing in the sublime backyard that is the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
TSG has hiked backcountry in Canyonlands and other national parks across the United States and lived off the Colorado River in 2005 while traveling for his American West Identity Quest (AWIQ). With survival training from his dad (graduate of USAFA & retired Air Force Officer), Tony is comfortable in any environment whether it be on a rustic dirt trail, on the backside
of a mountain, deep in the wilderness, in the desert, staying in improv shelters and tents,
or sleeping under the stars, T can handle any situation.”

Paintings by Ryan Doran Showing at Market Street Shoes for July

"Ryan Doran's paintings fuse the grittiness of the street with the traditional graffiti stencil style, combining paint and paper, darkness and light, music and street ethos to create a mosaic capturing the beauty and urban decay you pass every day.

Studying art in its basic forms and creating print work for the Seattle music scene led to the creation of the layered, intense and intricate work seen today."

In July, Maron Resur is the Featured Artist at Annie's Art and Frame

"Maron Resur grew up in a haunted hollow of a forest down the road from a psychotic park ranger under an abandoned train trestle. Classically trained as a printmaker, Maron has honed her drawing skills and developed a Rembrandt-esque painting style. She has a proclivity for portraiture, often times of herself, friends, and family. Her work is best when her academic training melds with her intuition."
---Research & Development

"Born in 1979 in Bloomington, Indiana to two artist parents, Maron Resur has spent her whole life closely linked to the art world. During Maron’s childhood, her family home was in the “Kentucky Bottoms” of rural, southern Indiana where she grew up playing with her parents’ old paints and frequently accompanying her father as he traveled for exhibitions and shows throughout the eastern United States. Having done well academically through high school, Maron received full scholarships to several universities. She chose Ball State for the hands-on quality of their Arts program. There, she completed her degree with a major in both Drawing and Printmaking and also completed a minor in Art History, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Since college, Maron has moved away from printmaking and has experimented with bookmaking, woodcuts, and painting. In 2005, she moved to Chicago where she met with a number of successes in her artistic career. In 2006, she was accepted into 15 juried exhibitions, took part in a number of group shows both in Chicago and Washington, DC, and won seven different awards for her work."

After finishing my BFA in Drawing and Printmaking, I found myself without a press and so began teaching myself to paint. The first paintings I did were very large-scale faces, conceived as a group with the intent to show them together. I had a lot of success with that series. It led to some portrait commissions, which I enjoy, but I felt like I always relied too much on “luck” or “talent.” I realized later that this was intuition.
While academic technique and training is indispensable to the illusionary aspects of my work, I don’t feel that a painting is truly complete until I’ve reached the point where academic training leaves off and instinct takes over. My best work is characterized by a harmony between my academic training and intuition; these paintings paint themselves.
My goal is to tell my own story using the most classic and understandable of techniques. I paint with my fingers, feeling out the fleshy contours of familiar faces. My portraits are often dark and moody, rarely facing the viewer eye-to-eye. My self-portraits, however, confront the viewer as the “iconic heroine” of the body of work. While each painting is essentially a reflection of myself, I hope to connect the studio and the soul in a way that speaks honestly of what it is to be human.

Leah Libow's Ancient Configurations of Beauty and Harmony features a mixed media show where beeswax is the primary medium. Along with beeswax, Leah combines a variety of laces, doilies and acrylic paints to forge together pieces that evoke contemplation and while capturing the essence what she calls the Divine Feminine.

Hera

Leah references how honeybees have traditionally been linked to Feminine archetypes. As bees are able to create and spread nourishment, so can a woman.

"Additionally, my use of beeswax comes from a love of the smell and textures created by melting and forming it, from my love for the honeybee’s ability to create and spread nourishment, and from the honeybee’s deep connections to the Feminine Archetype. Using beeswax, doilies, lace, and acrylic, the abstract and organic patterns I create in my paintings become maps to consciousness and to the Divine Feminine."

Leah will be present during the ArtWalk on 3/10 6-9pm and will be available to answer any questions or inquiries.

For the past six years, Theresa Connolly has created multi-color reduction prints using linoleum and oil inks. The long process of carving and building up an image with layers of color gives her time to contemplate the things she loves like the moon, water and trees. Although detailed drawings are part of the preparation, she pares them down to a few lines on the linoleum to guide her. This approach allows her to work with the unexpected, after each layer of color. The result is a suggestion rather than a strict representation of a landscape or object. Recently, Connolly has started making extra prints to cut up and create collages, as well as adding watercolor silkscreen prints to her repertoire. Whichever method, she sees her prints as thank you notes to the people and elements in her world that sustain her.

Ballard Works

Work by four artists is featured. Claire Cowie’s dreamlike imagery deals with imaginary worlds and the conflation of memory and reality. Through the observation of the inside and outside world, things are altered by the act of being observed. Drawing from playful and dark images, Cowie presents an exploration of fiction vs. truth. Franc Guerrero’s referential but not overt erotic imagery
explores the age-old history of painting’s notions of voyeurism. By referencing artists before him, Guerrero creates “thank you notes”, continuing the dialogue between the viewer and the person being viewed. Dan Shafer’s graphic images merge the use of text and image in order to explore the notion of memory, both personal and collective. Inspired by personal experiences of family, faith and community, Shafer reflects on universal experiences by playing with the notion of fiction and reality. Danila Rumold’s perceptions of the inner and outer landscapes manifest in the shape of lights and darks, and the medium of paint and graphite on paper. Through mediation of material, Rumold empties out thought in exchange for the discovery of the fleeting feeling tones and the discovery of the reality of how things are in the moment.
