Madeline Owen Brings Wild Animals To Miro Tea for March Artwalk

It’s often difficult to explain with words exactly why something is fascinating. Madeline Owen has always been drawn to animals. On the less crowded days, she visits the zoo to take pictures and observe; the wolves are her favorites. Each animal moves in a unique way- the bears lumber, the elk walk gracefully and majestically, the wolves have a spring in their step.

Owen explores this energy and movement in her show "Curious Poses" opening this Saturday at Miro Tea. To see additional pieces in her portfolio, visit: www.madelineowen.wordpress.com.

For the month of October, Miro Tea is featuring local artist Meghan Noel. Ms. Noel is a painter, illustrator, & textile and mixed media artist working in the Northwest.

In recent years she has chosen to focus more on her  intricate painting and illustrations. Her paintings and illustrations range from dreamy and surreal to delicate and whimsical. Self Portrait #4

For the month of June, Miro Tea will be hosting the post Chinese revolutionary paintings of Sun Zhe Zheng. As an artist from Nanjing China, Sun Zhe Zheng, who is now in his forties, has been impacted by Mao Zedong his entire life. Sun's contemporary oil paintings demonstrates the conflict and contrast of change in a fast evolving culture who is caught between a Communist past and a modern yet ambiguous future.

"In contemporary Chinese culture everything is in flux and changing. The lines are blurring: the lines between shadow and light; male and female. Everything is tepid and unclear.”

Sophia Marie Harrington is a self-taught artist who discovered her love for drawing at a very young age and has explored many artistic avenues throughout her life. Leah Libow's Ancient Configurations of Beauty and Harmony features a mixed media show where beeswax is the primary medium. Along with beeswax, Leah combines a variety of laces, doilies and acrylic paints to forge together pieces that evoke contemplation and while capturing the essence what she calls the Divine Feminine.

Hera

Leah references how honeybees have traditionally been linked to Feminine archetypes. As bees are able to create and spread nourishment, so can a woman.

"Additionally, my use of beeswax comes from a love of the smell and textures created by melting and forming it, from my love for the honeybee’s ability to create and spread nourishment, and from the honeybee’s deep connections to the Feminine Archetype. Using beeswax, doilies, lace, and acrylic, the abstract and organic patterns I create in my paintings become maps to consciousness and to the Divine Feminine."

Leah will be present during the ArtWalk on 3/10 6-9pm and will be available to answer any questions or inquiries.

Many people say your first time traveling overseas gives you a greater appreciation of life, expands your views and perhaps allows you to "find yourself" when you aren't even looking. Sarah Vanausdoll found herself behind the lens; a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a best friend, an artist and photographer. She found her passion for photography immediately upon backpacking through Thailand. Vanausdoll returned home with new eyes and a drive to learn the art of photography. Her love for people, their life stories, and what makes them smile, create a perfect recipe for her camera. "I have an eclectic palette when it comes to my composition and theme, and the subjects I enjoy photographing. I strive to capture vibrance, candids, emotion, serenity and most importantly the memory and feeling of the moment. I photograph LIFE, LOVE & LOVING LIFE....And I would love to share it with you!"

Originally from the small mountain town of Leavenworth, she has taught art in Hawaii and traveled many national roads and seas via occupations. Roche discovered her love for creating while sitting outside sketching in a high school art class in the mid-90s. Her art style could be described by some as acrylic, mixed media and abstract. A fascination for life and observing the complex and simple moments constantly inform her creations.

Though Mary Kay Nespeca was born in New York and grew up in Ohio, she has lived in Seattle for 26 years.
A registered nurse, she was always drawn to the arts and humanities and in 2003, she enrolled in an encaustic painting workshop at Pratt Fine Arts Center. She immediately bonded with this most rewarding medium, which uses pigments mixed with hot wax that are burned in as an inlay. Since then, Nespeca acquired a Fremont studio where she makes art and keeps a very fine mess. This series of paintings is an exploration of how the wood, wax, pigment, paper and tea become the torso in motion. The process of fusing the separate components and then scraping away the wax, gives form not only to the figure, but to other works as well.

Illustrator David D’Andrea’s work is iconic, dark, intricate and beautiful. His illustrations seethe with sinuous, accomplished line work and intentional rough edges, drawing from a variety of themes. The shelves of his small studio are crammed with dusty books, almanacs, type specimens, crumbling encyclopedias and other esoteric visual influences, all looking as if they had been rescued from a medieval basement. These eclectic influences show in the work—archaic lettering, obsessively detailed renderings of animals, and elements from numerous religions and cultures. Although Jessica F.K. Lambert’s first endeavor in art was as a child in 1983 when she won a fine arts award for a collage piece, she did not return to art making until 1993. Today she works in oil and soft pastels, as well as acrylics and oils. Lambert has always loved color—for her it expresses emotion and contemplation. From abstractions, she’s moved to more realistic renderings. Architecture, objects, loved ones—bits and pieces from her own everyday life have become the subjects of Lambert’s artwork. Color remains at the center of her artwork and the goal is to be fearless through color.
