Focus on Landscape Show At BallardWorks For May Artwalk

Come and see the landscape in a new light, as the work of four artists show us how they see the world. It is fascinating how different, yet similar, these interpretations of human perception can be. Compare it to your own experience of your senses.

Resident Artists Exhibit New Work At BallardWorks For April Artwalk

Just as the spring rain heralds fresh new flowers, the cold of winter encourages artists to cocoon in their studio and produce new work. New concepts, new materials, new dreams and visions, captured and held in place for your viewing in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Let's not forget new artists as well. Amy Hamblin joins the roster, working on the main floor in Spark Studio. Her current work is created from recycled rubber playground balls. These dynamic pieces are wearable art unlike anything else you've seen.

Invisible Adventures: A Story in Art & Poetry By Cynthia Heino Smith On View at Blowing Sands for the July ArtWalk

Paper collage, acrylics, wire, and watercolors—art in a range of mediums each with a corresponding poem: The concept of this show is that while each piece stands alone artistically, the whole of the show is connected through a character’s story.  This is a show to read your way through while on a summer’s art walk.

Stop By The Ballard Landmark Featuring Jimie Conner Gregory for December's ArtWalk

I paint and draw outdoors with ink and watercolors. Responding to the scene directly is energizing and brings out my individual response or ‘my voice.’ When I paint in a studio I use my own sketches for a basis from which to paint.                                                                      ~Jimie

Venue Presents the Paintings of Walter Share for the July ArtWalk

Artist Walter Share has been a painter for 35 years. Through his talents with watercolor, oil and acrylic paints as well as digital (drawn on the computer), he creates images of nature and landscape from the places where he has lived and painted including Seattle, Oregon and Alaska. Watercolor, oils and acrylics are his favorite mediums.

Walter enjoys the soft edges that permit paintings to change with mood and invite imagination to complete the painting. He also appreciates the ease of digital imagery in creating features with crisp lines and colors like silk screens.

Through his company, WalterColors, he does his own printing for greeting cards, prints and calendars to get the colors just right. At Venue this month, Walter will be expanding his collection of Northwest cards and matted prints, as well as offering some framed and original works in variety of sizes. Walter will also be on hand during Artalk demonstrating his process.

Artist Jenifer Rees has long worked in watercolor to create beautiful blends of color through repeated overlays in her landscape paintings. In recent years, she has experimented with using the medium more gesturally, through both wet and dry techniques, to create vivid and expressive images. Jenifer is drawn to outdoor subjects that reveal something about how they have been formed, and/or those subjects that create strong juxtapositions to their settings. Her current show, Gestures, features both scenes from her travels and studies of the beautiful madrone tree found here in the Pacific Northwest.

Monica Frisell grew up in Seattle and began photographing while in high school. Moving to New York City in 2005, there she photographed musicians both in live concerts and at recording sessions. Frisell's work has been published in national magazines such as Jazz Time and Fretboard Journal. Most recently, she publishes a photo essay entitled Sign of Life Recordings, documenting Bill Frisell's 858 Quartet recordings at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.

In the last five years, Frisell has also traveled extensively around Europe and America to explore her interest in modern decay. Her photo essay on post-Katrina New Orleans lead to her most recent project American Archeology, showing here in July. This show also includes photographs taken during a two-month road trip around the United States last winter. Frisell works predominately in black and while with a Leica M-6 camera, developing and printing all her photographs in her Ballard studio.
