Open Studios Open Doors For BallardWorks Artist

Phil Stoiber was in his BallardWorks studio on the evening of the February Artwalk. A stranger wandered into his studio. She was on her way home from work and took an interest in his prints.

Ivory's Rock - Arbritrary Meridian by Phil Stoiber, paper, lithography and chine-collé

He learned his visitor worked for Abmeyer + Wood, a gallery very close to SAM downtown where Stoiber has worked as a registrar since 1991. He didn't expect to hear anything from her again. A couple weeks later he was informed that he was being considered for Sustaining, a group show at Abmeyer + Wood Fine Art in April. There is no way to predict what Artwalk will bring when studio doors are open.

Visit Abmeyer + Wood to see Sustaining through April 27 at 1210 2nd Ave, Seattle 98101.

BallardWorks is a studio building with artists working in various media. The building is open every second Saturday with a new group show in the 2nd and 3rd floor galleries, and several art studios open for visitors.

A Focus on "Home" at Art & Soul in May

Art & Soul

2860 Northwest Market Street

May features artwork by Sue Danielson, a Seattle artist who works with a variety of materials including fiber, printmaking and sculpture. This show of paintings focuses on how obtaining a sense of home can require us to look into the untamed corners of our minds. Danielson explores the need for physical shelter that is in upheaval from the last four years of rising foreclosures and homelessness.

Artist, illustrator, and graphic designer
Kristien Ziska now lives in Seattle, but originally hails from the Arizona desert. This dichotomy of climates touches on the contrast in her interests, inspiration, and company she keeps and has been constant theme throughout her life. Ziska is horrible at sitting still and is currently in pursuit of balance and the ever-evasive virtue…PATIENCE. She enjoys producing art via watercolor, gauche, acrylic, pen and pencil, and digital prints. She is lover of babes, the desert, the universe, time and space, champagne, international friend visits, her beavers, crystals, moons, Egyptian symbolism, and kitty cats. As she reaches proper adulthood she is realizing her interests trend closer to that of her true self at 9 years old.
