Jeffrey Olson Featured At Bloom For May Artwalk

Jeffrey Olson is an assemblage sculpture artist uses rusted scrap metal and distressed wood as his primary materials. Foraging for these materials is the beginning of the process; never knowing what will be found is exciting and stimulating. Olson is drawn to their shape and texture possibilities and chooses to leave them in the twisted, crushed, deteriorated forms in which they are found, giving his work a raw, primitive feel.

The pieces are seldom preconceived; the inspiration for his work comes from a lifelong interest in mythology, science fiction, primitive religion and psychological archetypes.

According to Olson, "Art is fun; the creative process ignites a fire that warms my soul and creates a desire to share that inspiration and joy with the world. Art has the power to inspire, make one laugh, cry and contemplate. That sums up why I create art."

Design, Mathematics, Fabrication: Bonnevie Sculpture at Blowing Sands in June

Karlito Bonnevie's artwork often takes the form of beautiful furnishings with a subtle mathematical influence.

"I love to design stuff - it allows my creative juices to flow.
I love to use and apply mathematics - it keeps me in touch with the universe.
I love to build stuff in metal - it's extremely focusing and surprisingly forgiving.

Ultimately, one must answer the question - why do we make art? Ah, who cares? Just make it!"

May features artwork by Sue Danielson, a Seattle artist who works with a variety of materials including fiber, printmaking and sculpture. This show of paintings focuses on how obtaining a sense of home can require us to look into the untamed corners of our minds. Danielson explores the need for physical shelter that is in upheaval from the last four years of rising foreclosures and homelessness.
