May features artwork by Sue Danielson, a Seattle artist who works with a variety of materials including fiber, printmaking and sculpture. This show of paintings focuses on how obtaining a sense of home can require us to look into the untamed corners of our minds. Danielson explores the need for physical shelter that is in upheaval from the last four years of rising foreclosures and homelessness.

Liam Halvorsen is eighteen and lives in Ballard. He has always been interested in the human face and translates that through his artwork. His clay work, like much of his 2-D work, is an experiment in the boundaries of the face and the possibilities it holds. Though he has been making faces out of clay since he was a child, this is his first solo art show.

Local artist Susan Waite presents her colorful local landscape oils. Painting on site and in her studio at the Salty Dog Pottery building in Ballard, her pieces highlight some of our favorite local buildings. Available by commission, her custom home portraits combine a love of color and light with painting outdoors. Waite also teaches various art classes for the "Seniors Making ARt" program and the Seattle Parks Department.

Photographer, Doug Weeks was born and raised in upstate New York, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. A visit to Washington State in 1981 inspired him to make the Northwest his home. In addition to engineering work, Weeks has been employed as a farm worker, boatyard laborer, security guard, general handyman, graphic designer, yacht salesman, auditor, and boiler operator. He has dabbled in photography since high school, but his interest blossomed in earnest with purchase of his first digital camera in 2006. His interests in steam power, mechanics, history and hiking combine into favorite photo subjects that involve the interplay of technology and the environment. Weeks is involved in the preservation and operation of two historic steamboats and is currently employed as a manager of environmental programs in the maritime industry. Appropriately, he currently resides in Ballard and this is the fourth public exhibition of his work.
