SAVOUR presents the art of Mike Cooper in October.
Mike resides on the Delmarva Peninsula and his primary focus is with psychological movement, strong color, spontaneity, brightness, painterly brushstrokes, decorative patterns, and fleeting moments. We have on display several of his pieces that show his love of vibrant colors and flowers.

Charles Moses has been a portrait photographer for over 25 years with Yuen Lui Studio.
These images are from his 5th trip to document Tucson AZ “Day of the Dead Celebration”. The event has a long tradition involving the Tucson community acknowledging their deceased loved ones.

Two worlds come together at Spark Studio during Artwalk this month. Sue Peters will be present from 5:30-8pm to discuss her position as school board candidate for District IV, representing Ballard, West Phinney, Magnolia, and Queen Anne. Additionally, wire sculpture by Amy Hamblin, will be on display for Artwalk visitors.
Sue Peters has been called the reform candidate by some as she favors reducing the school district's reliance on high-stakes standardized testing. She has also received significant endorsements from current school board members, directors and city council members.
As a public school parent, Sue worked with Cliff Mass to found the Seattle Math Coalition, an advocate for stronger math resources in Seattle Public Schools. She has been actively involved in the Seattle Public School District for nearly 10 years, as a parent, volunteer, public education advocate, education journalist and member of the district’s Superintendent Search Community Focus Group and the Strategic Plan Stakeholder Task Force.
Amy Hamblin carves mass out of air using thin scrims of wire netting. Pieces are finished with hand wrought articulations, portals and shaped copper finials. The sculpture on display, inspired by cellular structures and organic shapes, represent a body of work created over the last five years. Amy will demonstrate how she knits with wire during the Artwalk. The studio will remain open until 9pm.

Local artists working in a variety of mediums are celebrated in this group show. Laurette Chasse will bring in her collages, Nat Gibbons his paintings, and Carla Madrigal and Danny Mansmith their embroidery. There are also sculptures by Jordan Miller and Alexis Ortiz, collaged contemporary cassone by Heather Swain, and a painted ukulele by Dalton Webb.
Opening night will feature a special performance by the Ukadelics 7pm-8pm.
The Ukadelics are Jeff Cook, Kevin Wilson, Jeff Ringer, Craig Kuehnert, Charlene Hall, Rick Araluce, Marne Cohen-Vance, Lisa Bellero and Julie Miller. This talented group met by working together at the various theatre scene shops in the Seattle area over the years. They formed the band 7 years ago to play at the annual luau of a couple that was also part of the theatre community and we have been playing ever since. They entertain as a Tiki Band, playing a range of songs from Martin Denny and Elvis Presley to Annette Funicello and late thirties songs like the songs of Andy Iona.

Paul Knutzen is a local artist who currently lives in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of South Seattle. Paul attributes his interest in art to his father, a painter himself, who exposed Paul to a wide range of art as a child. He graduated from Seattle Central Community College with a degree in graphic art and soon found a home in the video game industry, where he spent over a decade creating 3D environments.
Much of Paul’s artwork reflects his strong affection for architecture and the organic elements found in man-made structures. He enjoys experimenting with different mediums and surfaces in order to create subtle and unpredictable textures in his artwork. When he is not working in his garage studio, Paul can often be found wandering the city streets with a camera looking for inspiration in unusual buildings, trains, colorful signage, or local street art.

As a former painter, photography is very interesting to Karen Hyams, as there are so many opportunities for distortion between her brain and the camera sensor. This bending and distorting makes photography plastic, surprisingly like painting, which feels very natural.

Kathy's work is about relationships.
In her own words: "I paint from observation and I want to become familiar with the various relationships that present themselves in front of me. The air, the color, the light, and the distance and space between the sitter and I shift week to week. More significantly, time moves on, and people’s lives change. In the end, I only hope to be truthful to what I see and to build upon that strange, unique, and, I believe, temporary relationship that transpires with each sitting and each moment."
