Chances are, for most of you, it was when you were a child and everything you made felt like a grand masterpiece.  

These painted papers and canvases of Viewlands Elementary Student's (K-5 General Ed and Special Ed) have the inspiring spirit that only children's work can bring.

 

Join Moxie Nutrition in their support of our local public school's Visual Arts Education!

The funds collected will be put towards installing a kiln so the students can enjoy not only painting and drawing, but the world of ceramics!

Paintings by Longtime Ballard Resident Randi Starup Can Be Seen at The Scoop at Walter's

 Longtime Ballard resident, Randi Starup, will be showing paintings of

trees and crows.

Randi has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington.

She works out of her studio at Salty Dog in Ballard.

 Stranded in Ballard: A Tribute to American Gods

In Neil Gaimain's novel American Gods, mythological figures who travel to the New World with the first immigrants are soon forgotten and stranded in the United States. For this show, artists will produce a drawing or painting portraying a god or creature of Norse mythology stranded in modern or historic Ballard.

Mythos Art Club is a collective of character-driven, story-based graphic artists in Seattle. The group consists of cartoonists, caricaturists, tattoo artists and illustrators. Mythos meet for bi-monthly "Sketch Jams," an event where artists produce new work based on a chosen theme in just five hours and put it on display to the public.

Art Work By Hiroko Seki To Be Shown at Annie's Art & Frame For This Saturday's ArtWalk

My current creative emphasis is working
sketches with my own focus within each
scene. The style is called "En Plein Air.’’ I
now live in the Northwest and do art to
express that which is impossible to
describe in words. This is my my visual
language; my communication.
The subjects are, birds, wild animals, trees,
flowers, water, and moment. I sketch these
set-up with Sumi ink, dishes, brushes,
sketch-books, and with a towel.

 

 

 The basis for my art starts in getting to know the beauty around me. My subjects emerge from ongoing communications with nature. Art is born amidst conversations with animals, trees, and all things in the natural world. This spirit buds into themes I express in Nihonga and Sumie.

 

 My works reflect the intrinsic power of nature, as purified by simplicity of design. Each Nihonga piece is created in powdered mineral, oxide, and glass-based pigments. They are applied using the traditional heated nikawa, glues made from traditional rendering processes.
